4. What was the first commandment given to man?

In Genesis 1 verse 28 it states: ‘And God blessed them (Adam and Eve) and God said to them, ‘be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and take dominion over it, and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that lives on the face of the earth.’ This was God’s first command to mankind. The implication of this command is that God intended people to marry and have families, and one could even argue that there is an implied command to have large families to fulfil God’s governorship of creation that he wanted mankind to fulfil.
