Reading from the Gospel of John in the Injeel chapter 1 and verses 29-34 we find the answer to this question: ‘The next day John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who’s far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’ I did not recognise him as the Messiah, but I have been baptising with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.’ Then John testified, ‘I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him. I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptise with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptise with the Holy Spirit.’ I saw this happen to Jesus so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.’ In the Qur’an in Ali ‘Imrans surah 3 ayat 45 it states: ‘Behold the angels said: ‘O Mary! Allâh giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus. The son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter, and of the company of those nearest to Allâh.’ The name ‘Jesus’ means Saviour – one who saves people from their sins. The word ‘Christ’ means Messiah or anointed One. The One filled with the Holy Spirit. Allâh would not make a mistake in the names He gave to the son of Mary. These names must mean something important. They do mean something very important; they mean that Jesus is the Saviour for mankind and He also has the power to give us the Holy Spirit so will will have to power to stop sinning over and over again if we ask for His forgiveness.
